criminal charges laid against a 12-year-old alleged to have received a stolen Freddo frog worth 70 cents, the boy’s lawyer said today

The west.com,au quotes”"It is clear that the back down has occurred because of this adverse media coverage and if it hadn’t of been for the adverse media coverage, they would have dug their heels in and proceeded with the prosecution.which would have been a monumental waste of resources.”

Peter Collins, the director of legal services with the Aboriginal Legal Service, warned that the boy’s case was not an isolated incident and indigenous children were being over-policed in WA.

A spokesman for Mr O’Callaghan confirmed this morning that two charges of receiving stolen property, the second relating to a novelty sign, would be withdrawn on the condition that the boy agreed to have the matter referred to a juvenile justice team.

Mr Collins said he would be pushing for police to issue a caution against the boy, rather than a referral to a juvenile justice team, after Police Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan announced police would offer to withdraw the criminal prosecution on two charges of receiving stolen property. The second charge related to a novelty sign.

“This is not an isolated incident. This is the thin edge of the wedge, this happens all the time. Aboriginal kids are being charged with really trivial offences which shouldn’t be the subject of criminal prosecutions and which should be the subject of diversion processes.

“They are routinely being hauled before the courts. What is means is the dye is cast very young for Aboriginal kids.”

Attorney-General Christian Porter said the boy’s case was unusual and the move to drop the charges appeared to be a “good decision”.

Are you kidding me!! While there are more and more Newspapers and websites dishing out free news everyday to stay in the competition , Today Rupert Murdoch has announced that he will start charging people $$ to access News online !!

While rupert murdoch has been on the money for so many years and built a vast media empire like no other , this ( new venture of charging people for online news ) is really something to pull off.

I was very much on Alan kohlers side today when he anounced ( on Abc news – Business segment) that Rupert murdoch is going to charge us for online news and wished him good luck with that ( also giving a vey knowing smile)

Watch this space as this plan unfolds. I would most certainly like to follow this story to see how it pans out.

In his own words Rupert murdoch said “Quality journalism is not cheap, and an industry that gives away its content is simply cannibalising its ability to produce good journalism,” he said yesterday as he announced a $3.4bn loss for News Corp, which owns 20th Century Fox, Fox News and Sky TV as well as newspapers.”

Would i pay for online news content ? NO WAY !!

Recently on today tonight (http://au.todaytonight.yahoo.com/article/5746515/money/clinching-best-home-loan) westpac had a program giving all the latest home rates for different mortgages and they made a massive blunder giving rates that were 3 months old for Westpac home loan rates.

People were on the phone to Westpac immediately thinking it was true , but were disappointed to know it was just a mistake by today tonight yet again and they were led on a wild goose chase by today tonight . i am sure they might have been many pissed off people because of this misinformation

There doesn’t seem to be any article existing on this today tonight link anymore

http://au.todaytonight.yahoo.com/article/5746515/money/clinching-best-home-loan

even still, you can catch a glimpse of the rates they published here

http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=westpac+today+tonight&meta=&aq=f&oq=

This reminds we about another episode of the watch room on today tonight they showed, in which they said that the identity of people are protected due to privacy reasons , though they showed one guy on the show ( who was apparently related to some footballer ) and it was kinds quite obivious that he was the same guy whom they showed before without blocking the face.

After saying the identity was protected . it surely didn’t look like it was.
