Japanese interest groups in Perth including Graytown.org are uniting to run Perth’s biggest disaster relief effort. The Japan Disaster Charity Relief Event will be held at Forest Chase in the Perth CBD Saturday April 9th from 10am to 5pm.

In October 1973, a 78-member goodwill mission from the Kagoshima prefecture visited Perth. Among the leaders of the party were Mayor Sueyoshi and five Members of the municipal assembly. On October 30th, Mayor Sueyoshi formally invited the City of Perth to sign a sister city agreement. The details were finalised in discussions between Lord Mayor Lee-Steere, Mayor Sueyoshi, Town Clerk G.O. Edwards and his counterpart, Mr Fumiyoshi Ogata, and on 19 November the full Council agreed to formalise the sister-city affiliation. The Lord Mayor, Mr Lee-Steere, led a group of Councillors and citizens of Perth during a visit to Kagoshima for the signing of the sister-city agreement, which was formalised on 23 April 1974. WA speed cameras – Money Grab or safety !!

WA has just put into operation the new red light cameras that double up as speed cameras , which means you could possibly be trying to get through that amber lights before it changes and if you do get through , you could still get lumped with a speeding fine for trying not to avoid going against a red light. The new set of cameras can catch you for speeding as well as red lights. Check below the list for locations where these new cameras have been installed and DRIVE SAFE

The cameras have been brought in just before the long weekend , makes us wonder is it for the money grab or safety !!

These are the locations for the new red light speed cameras. . Even if you speed through the orange light to beat the red – if you’re speeding through these set of lights – you will get done for speeding. There is one already active and installed in front of the bell tower on Riverside Drive in the City.

One of the bigger indian Hindu festivals is approaching soon ands its called “Diwali”

Diwali is one of the biggest festival of Hindus, celebrated with great enthusiasm and happiness in India. Diwali (also spelt Divali sometimes) or “Deepavali” is popularly known as the festival of lights. It is an important five-day festival occurring between mid-October and mid-November. Deepavali is an official holiday in India.

The “indian society of WA” is organizing a diwali function where you will be able to savor “Good indian food” and also see some Indian cultural programs. Details below

Diwali Celebrations Perth 2010

While Deepavali is popularly known as the "festival of lights", the most significant spiritual meaning is "the awareness of the inner light". The name Diwali is itself a contraction of the word Deepavali (Sanskrit: दीपावली Dīpāvali), which translates into row of lamps .

Diwali involves the lighting of small clay lamps (diyas) (or Deep in Sanskrit: दीप) filled with oil to signify the triumph of good over evil. Conditions and Requirements for the News reader Job

To enter, simply pick a news topic that affects West Australians (can be serious or light-hearted) and give us your spin on the topic. Select anything from local politics, sport, entertainment, business news – anything you want. Your entry can be any digital video format including webcam. The maximum file size is 20 Mb and acceptable formats include .avi, .mpg, mpeg, .wmv.

The video only needs to be about 25-30 seconds in length, but we won’t penalise you if you go over time. However, up to a minute is definitely all we will be watching, so make sure your video submission doesn’t run over a minute.

The deadline for video submissions has now been extended. Applications close at noon on Monday 30 November 2009.
